2 owners detained in Ciudad Real for alleged hate crime at beauty centre
Police arrested both suspects after refusals tied to a woman’s origin.
Police in Ciudad Real, Castilla-La Mancha, have detained the two owners of a beauty centre after a woman reported she was refused services because of her ethnic background.
The case began when the woman contacted the establishment to book a cosmetic treatment. Instead of being given available appointment times, the report says the owner checked the applicant’s profile photo and told her the centre did not serve people from the Roma community.
The woman then turned to an association that supports Roma people and arranged a new booking request for the same treatment. This time, the request was made through a representative whose profile photo did not indicate Roma ethnicity, and the centre allegedly offered multiple appointment options.
To test the situation again, the woman went to the centre in person. The man in charge at the time allegedly told her there were no available appointments for the treatment she needed, even though the association representative had previously been offered times for the same service.
Police launched an investigation into the alleged discrimination and handled the case through specialist units dealing with hate crimes. After checks, officers arrested both owners as suspected perpetrators.
The two detainees were placed at the disposal of the judicial authority for further processing of the case.
